Just a guy who found exercise late in life. I absolutely LOVE running and CrossFit. But, you'll only have to be around me for a few minutes to figure that out.

So I’ve started probably 5 different blog posts for this blog since I started it, and haven’t posted any of them because they weren’t “complete”. The problem is I’m trying to wait until I have enough for a post to be worthwhile. I’m changing my mentality on that now. I’ll try to post several times a week with shorter posts. Longer than a twitter update, but probably only a couple paragraphs at most.

Here’s the obligatory first post on my new blog…

I’ve been running for about a year and a half now. In that time, I’ve completed 4 marathons, and about 10 half marathons.

This year, my number one goal is to train and run a Boston Qualifying (BQ) time. I’m currently 36, so to qualify for the 2013 Boston Marathon I need to run a marathon in 3 hours and 10 minutes. My current personal record (PR) for the marathon is 4 hours and 51 minutes. There’s a bit of a gap there as you can see…

I’m currently in recovery mode from having just run the Goofy Challenge at Disney World. For those that aren’t familiar with it, you run a half marathon on Saturday and then a full marathon on Sunday. I ran it this year with a good friend of mine. We weren’t running for any kind of time goals, just to have fun, enjoy the sites, and complete the challenge.

Starting next week, I’ll begin a training program that will include a lot of speed work, and cross training. Cross training is something that has always been seriously lacking in my exercise schedule, but I know it’s one of the key components of taking my running to the next level, and getting to that BQ marathon time.

I’ve also recently started a diet of sorts. I’m not one to starve myself, but at a minimum I’m going to try and make better decisions about what (and how much) I eat. All of this of course is in an effort to leave room for as much beer as possible.

On the blog I plan to chronicle my beer drinking, as well as my progress towards Boston Qualifying…

See you at the start line!
